The Crystal Restaurant and Cocktail Lounge, well known on Penn Square, offers an excellent cuisine, fine service and delightful dining to hundreds of daily customers. Owned and founded by the Mantis Family, the restaurant recently celebrated it’s 50th anniversary with the opening of the elegant Anniversary Room. This beautiful dining room, with its fine appointments of silver linens and china, is available or banquets and social and civic affairs. It’s spacious area seats approximately 400 guests. Pictured in the Anniversary Room are: Mr. and Mrs. Mantis and Mr. and Mrs. Clifford W. Brooks.
I just found a business card from Moyers Book Mart, 22-28 N 6th Street, in my copy of Hegel’s Phenomenology…
My sister worked there in the 60’s. It was a great place.
OH! THE CRYSTAL RESTAURANT! SUCH FOND MEMORIES, I WORKED A FEW DOORS FROM THERE AND STOPPED EVERY MORNING FOR TAKE-OUT COFFEE AND FRENCH BREAD TOAST. ATE MANY A MEAL THERE. GREAT FOOD, GREAT HOSTS, GREAT SERVICE!
My family new them and we used to go eat at the Crystal all the time that was such a great place to go out and dine when I was a kid
As a college student, I was a waitress at the Crystal summers from 1968 through 1972. It was a real coming of age experience. First time I ever worked with diverse people — Puerto Ricans, Asians, Mexicans, Greeks, African-Americans. BTW, the food was so good. Everything made from scratch — I still think about the bread, the soups, the pies — nothing like it anymore.
