While Christmas is behind us for another year, the snow-covered scene of Penn Square Friday afternoon brought to mind memories of the old Bing Crosby standard. Although shoppers were scarce due to driving conditions, the view they missed was worth a lot.

This is a Pomeroy's charge plate; pre-cursor to the credit card. They were used in the 30s through the 50s. It would be laid in an imprinter with a charge slip, inked and stamped with the buyers name and address and record of the transaction for "easy" bookkeeping. Mainly it reduced written copying errors. Dressing your best on Easter morning used to be the thing to do.
