Carsonia Park opened in 1896 and operated until 1950. It’s extensive history can be read here. It appears that the only thing that remains is the pool and lake. The main midway was built over by housing many years ago.
It was short I worked there. It was the only building Joe Gentile owned out right. He changed the name…
The park and dance hall was known to all Big Bands, some of whom performed there many times to entertain all the dancers that arrived by trolley cars and some cars as well. Too bad the building succombed to a devastating fire.
I bought a blue to glass blue slipper that says souvenir from car sonia park.any interest?
I love the old image! I believe that might be my home at 120 Montgomery at the top. Is that the Beer Garden shown? Awesome image!
I believe the beer garden was where Anthony’s currently is
Yes, 100% correct. The Passing Scene vol 2 pg 254 has a nice picture of it. I worked in the building when it was SPA-ZIOS and then sold to become Anthony’s. The bar area is the original building. The dining area facing Byram, the rear facing Nevella, and the kitchen area were all added when It was called Charlies. I think that was the name from the 80s. It then sat vacant for a while before David Spatz and Frank DeFazio partners to make it SPA-ZIOS.
I don’t know about the 80s (I moved away in ’79), but it was Charlie’s Valley Inn in the ’60s and ’70s. Mt. Penn High School held its award dinners there.
