National Central Bank has finalized arrangements to install a specially designed message center on its office building at the southwest corner of 5th and Penn Streets. Announcement of the anticipated early-April installation of the new computer controlled display sign at National Central’s Retail Loan Center was made by W. Sturgis Corbett, bank senior vice president and Reading region administrator.
Mr Corbett said: “The sign, which has been under consideration by the bank since early November of last year, will repeat a programmed, eight-line message and the current temperature and time.
“By offering the use of the sign to the city and county for the promotion of civic and cultural activities, we hope to make it a landmark on Penn Square.”

This was one of my customers…
Yes, National Central, then Hamilton. Branches at all key areas. Had many friends who worked at the various locations. Downtown, Bellevue Ave., Berkshire Mall, and Fairgrounds Mall. First auto loan 1977. 120 a mo for 3 years paid off in 2 via Tom Ninetto. Today there is a Customers Bank at the Muhlenberg location.
Confusion reigns. What is the date of this? The newspaper article? It almost sounds current.
I just realized I hadn’t added the date to the title! This was from an April 1977 Reading Eagle Paper
