On December 4th, 1977 a train carrying coal from Harrisburg to Bethlehem derailed around Clayton & Penn Avenues in Wyomissing. The train took out power lines, disrupting power for the surrounding areas, including Berkshire Mall.

Now, nearly forty-two years later on April 16th around 9PM, a Norfolk Southern train 63V hauling trash from New Jersey to Harrisburg derailed on the same stretch of track. The eastbound train derailed at a part in which 3 sections of truck merge into 2 sections behind the Wyomissing Family Restaurant on Penn Ave. It was hauling trash and took many weeks to fully clean up.
