I was sent this image a few months ago by a reader. The picture/content is interesting in itself, a relic of the 50s. However I noticed that it wasn’t from the standard Reading Eagle. It looks like there was some sort of weekly paper called the Berks County Record? It was formerly called the Reading Record before 1959. Miller’s Ice Cream
Miller’s Ice cream was located in Sinking Spring at 4700 Penn Avenue. Most people remember it being in operation in the 60s-70s, but I can’t find any definite info on when it opened and closed. One obit mentioned a man being a fountain clerk at a Miller’s in the 1940s. Today Hollywood Cleaners stands in it’s place, but boasts the same retro sign.… Read Full Article
Davis Dixie Cup
Anyone remember where this place was? It appears this little building was called Davis Dixie Cup. On the sides not facing the viewer the facade appears to be marketing Smith’s Model Dairy Ice Cream, which was located in Hamburg PA. Do you have any idea where this ice cream stand sat? Bonus points if you know the lovely lady serving the shake 🙂

West Wyomissing Foot Bridge
In West Wyomissing, there used to be a pedestrian foot bridge that connected Morwood Avenue to Penn Avenue. It was built by the Reading Railroad in the early 1920s to help commuters who lived in West Wyo to get to the trolly lines on Penn Ave easily. A nearby establishment was Queen of the Valley Diner and Schell’s Ice Cream.
